With all the hustle and bustle this time of year, I enjoy the many opportunities we have in the Heart of Orléans to take a break and recharge.

There are many ways to pamper yourself here in the Heart of Orléans. Whether it’s a trip to a spa like O Paradis Esthetics, a massage at Anna Belanger and Associates, a fresh and delicious meal at a restaurant like Pho Truc Lien, or a new hair style at Liora’s or Lyndon’s Barber Shop, it’s all right here with the great service you’ve come to expect.

Did you know that on average 33,000 new entrepreneurs enter the workforce each year and small and medium-sized businesses contribute slightly more than half of Canada’s gross domestic product? Be sure to have a peek at Councillor Dudas’ article this month where she talks about small and medium-sized businesses being the backbone of our local economy.

This month we also get up close and personal with one of our associate members, Marc Plante, co-owner of Stray Dog Brewing Company. Marc is an advocate for our BIA business community and enjoys working with various small businesses.

Congratulations to Marie-France Lalonde, our newly-elected federal Member of Parliament. We look forward to working closely with you to advance many of the projects we have on the go, especially our Balance Orléans initiative, which has the ambitious goal of bringing a Federal employment node to Orléans, one of Ottawa’s most bilingual and highly educated populations, while reducing the number of cars commuting from the east end to federal jobs in the downtown core each day.

Lastly, I would like to take a minute and thank the men and women who have served in the military. Thank you for serving our country and protecting our freedom.

Lest we forget.
