#WhyNotOrléans is a community‑led cause driven by the Heart of Orléans BIA. It’s a shared belief that Orléans deserves to be seen, experienced, invested in, and celebrated for what it truly is – a vibrant, growing destination with heart.
This cause is about pride, momentum, and possibility. It’s about changing the narrative and inviting people to ask a simple question when choosing where to shop, invest, visit, or build:

Orléans is growing – fast. With major housing development underway, four new LRT stations on the horizon, and an approved Orléans Secondary Plan ready to guide smart, inclusive growth and revitalization, we have an unprecedented opportunity to shape what comes next.
What’s needed now is momentum, investment, and a collective voice to ensure growth benefits local businesses, residents, and the community as a whole.

A Community Conversation
The #WhyNotOrléans campaign was created to spark meaningful conversations about the future of Orléans and to better understand what residents value most about their community, and what they believe would make it even stronger.
Through a series of social media questions, we’ve invited the community to share their ideas on everything from dining and shopping to entertainment, public spaces, walkability, and the overall visitor experience. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with hundreds of thoughtful comments contributing to an ongoing dialogue about the future of Orléans.
To ensure every voice is heard, each discussion is reviewed and analyzed. Comments are grouped into common themes, sentiment is assessed, and recurring priorities are identified. These insights are summarized and shared with the community while also helping inform future advocacy efforts, destination marketing initiatives, and conversations with partners and stakeholders.
Several consistent themes have emerged throughout the campaign. Residents envision a more vibrant, walkable community with a revitalized St. Joseph Boulevard, expanded patio and dining options, stronger shopping destinations, more entertainment and family-friendly activities, enhanced public spaces, and improved connections to Orléans’ natural assets, including Petrie Island and the waterfront.
Just as importantly, the campaign has highlighted what residents already love about Orléans. Local businesses, parks, trails, festivals, markets, and community events are frequently celebrated, demonstrating a strong sense of pride and a shared belief in Orléans’ potential.

Coffee with Sonya: Your Questions, Answered
As part of the #WhyNotOrléans movement, we invited Sonya Shorey, President and CEO of Invest Ottawa, to join our business community for an open conversation about the future of Orléans.
The event gave residents, business owners, and community members the opportunity to ask questions about economic development, investment, entrepreneurship, jobs, and the opportunities ahead for our community.
