The Issue:
The Watermain Replacement Project impacted businesses throughout the Heart of Orléans, creating potential challenges related to customer access, visibility, traffic flow, and day-to-day operations. While the infrastructure investment was necessary and beneficial for the long-term health of the community, it was important to ensure local businesses were supported throughout the construction process.

 

Our Role:
Advocacy and communication: working closely with City staff, contractors, and project partners to ensure business concerns were heard and addressed. The BIA advocated for regular communication and secured weekly construction updates, while also gathering feedback from affected businesses and bringing concerns forward to identify practical solutions.

The Outcome:
Businesses received timely information about construction schedules, access changes, and traffic impacts, allowing them to better plan operations and communicate with customers. Ongoing collaboration helped resolve issues quickly and minimize disruptions wherever possible.

 

The Impact:
Local businesses remained informed, supported, and represented throughout a major infrastructure project. The initiative demonstrated how effective advocacy can help balance important community investments with the needs of the businesses that contribute to Orléans’ economic vitality and long-term success.
