Spotlight on Sonshine Families: Making a Difference Since 1991

For over three decades, Sonshine Families has been a beacon of care and support in the Heart of Orléans BIA. Founded by Len Goddard in 1991, this exceptional organization provides foster care and specialized programs for children and youth with special needs.

 

A Community-Driven Vision

 

The idea for Sonshine Families was born from Len’s involvement in a community board with the Salvation Army and conversations with the Director of Children’s Aid of Ottawa. These discussions highlighted a critical need for care services, leading Len to create an agency focused on improving lives.

“We’re always striving to meet the needs of individuals and help them maximize their potential and life experiences,” says Len.

Sonshine Families offers a wide range of services, including:

  • Foster care for children and youth with special needs
  • Residential care
  • Respite services
  • Day programs (RAYS & BEAM)
  • Camp opportunities through Sonshine Cove
  • Evening clubs focused on social activities, cooking, and choir
