Spotlight: Bloom Hockey Training Centre: Where Passion Meets Performance

When it comes to hockey, Rick Dorval doesn’t just know the game, he’s lived it. With more than 40 years of family involvement in hockey as players, coaches, trainers, and parents, it was only a matter of time before this deep-rooted passion took shape as something new and exciting in the Heart of Orléans. In early 2025, Bloom Hockey Training Centre officially opened its doors on Youville Drive, introducing Ottawa’s only synthetic ice hockey training facility.

This isn’t just another rink. Bloom Hockey is designed for individuals and teams alike, offering high-level skills training in shooting, passing, and stickhandling, plus a range of ringette programming. With a synthetic ice surface that replicates real ice at about 90%, it offers an affordable and flexible solution for young athletes looking to improve their game year-round. It’s even the same quality surface used by Disney on Ice and Cirque du Soleil.

What sets Bloom apart isn’t just its cutting-edge surface, it’s the all-in-one experience. In partnership with Gladiator Strength & Conditioning and renowned strength coach Greg Pollock, athletes can sharpen both their hockey and fitness skills under one roof. Add in a snack bar, skate sharpening, and hockey accessories, and it’s a complete hub for hockey families.

“We saw a gap in the Ottawa hockey scene with limited access to quality ice time,” says Rick. “Bloom fills that need, and more. The best part? Seeing the kids so happy.”

Located in the Heart of Orléans BIA, Bloom benefits from its proximity to recreation programs and easy highway access. Rick is especially grateful for the strong local support, including a great relationship with their landlord.

Whether you’re training for the next level or just love the game, Bloom Hockey is where passion and performance collide.
