There’s a new flavour in town, and it’s more than just food—it’s an experience. Afro Base Restaurant & Bar, founded in December 2024 by Doris Uhunmwangho, is more than just a place to grab a meal. It’s a community hub, a cultural bridge, and a home away from home for many.
The inspiration behind Afro Base Restaurant & Bar wasn’t just about food—it was about bringing people together. Doris saw firsthand how loneliness affects many people, and she wanted to create a space where good food, warm conversations, and meaningful connections could flourish. Afro Base is designed to be a welcoming space where culture, tradition, and community meet.
Afro Base fills a unique gap in the Orléans dining scene by offering traditional West African and Haitian dishes. The menu is a celebration of bold spices, rich flavours, and time-honoured recipes passed down through generations. Whether you’re dining in, grabbing takeout, or ordering catering for a special event, every dish at Afro Base is crafted with authenticity and heart.
What sets Afro Base apart is its commitment to fostering connections. It’s not just a place to eat—it’s a place to gather, to experience culture, and to create lasting memories. The restaurant’s warm atmosphere makes every visit feel like a special occasion.
Doris chose to open Afro Base in the Heart of Orléans BIA because she saw a need for more cultural representation in the local dining scene. She also recognized the community’s strong support for small businesses, making it the perfect place to bring her vision to life.
When she’s not running her restaurant, Doris enjoys renovation projects—demolishing, rebuilding, and transforming spaces. Her hands-on, creative nature is reflected in Afro Base, where she has built a welcoming, vibrant, and authentic space from the ground up.
If you’re looking for a delicious, cultural, and community-driven dining experience, Afro Base Restaurant & Bar is the place to be. Whether you’re already a fan of West African cuisine or eager to try something new, Afro Base welcomes you with open arms and a full plate.
