Orléans is growing at a rapid pace. Since the creation of the The Heart of Orléans BIA in 2006, we have seen an increase in housing, businesses and mixed-use developments. We have a new Orléans Community Improvement Plan (CIP) that provides an incentive to develop further, an Orléans Secondary Plan Corridor Study that works with Ottawa’s new official plan and Orléans is the very first suburb to receive Light Rail Transit (LRT).
Orléans’ proximity to downtown, available lands, four LRT stations and the highest concentration of bilingual and educated citizens in all of Ottawa make our community the perfect business destination.
This coupled with advocacy, promotion, streetscape and beautification opportunities through our BIA organization definitely gives you the Ottawa east advantage.
The Heart of Orléans Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a Local Board of Ottawa Council, with a volunteer Board of Management, started by our business community in 2006. BIAs are a way for business districts to pool resources to improve the area, and speak with one common voice. We do this by promoting the area as a district, advocating on behalf of our members, and making improvements to the streetscape.
If you are interested in the specifics, you can brush up with our Frequently Asked Questions and get a little more up close and personal with our Leadership Team or have a peek at the “About us” section of our website, heartoforleans.ca.
What does it mean to be a member of the Heart of Orléans BIA? What’s in it for you? What is all this “stronger together” verbiage?
We encourage you to have a peek at our BIA Member Booklet where we explain our vision, values and mandate as well as defining the benefits for you and your business. We talk about how the BIA is defined by its pillars (or teams) and how each pillar shapes the BIA into something we can all be proud of.
But don’t take our word for it! We also include some candid quotes from some of our members. Finally, we end the booklet with some important contact numbers you will want to have on hand if you are managing a small business in the BIA.
We trust that you will find the BIA Member Booklet useful, and as always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’re always happy to hear from you!
