We're expanding!
As you know, the Heart of Orléans BIA is a is a Local Board of Ottawa Council, with a volunteer Board of Management, started by our business community in 2008. Our current boundary runs along St-Joseph Boulevard from Youville Drive to Centrum Boulevard with a few pockets at Jeanne D’Arc Boulevard, Place D’Orleans Drive and Centrum Boulevard.
As you may have heard, we are expanding! We would like to expand our current BIA boundaries to include the four future LRT stations (Jeanne D’Arc, Convent Glen, Place D’Orléans and Trim) as well as the Youville, Taylor Creek and Jeanne D’Arc business communities.
Orléans is growing at a rapid pace. Since the creation of the BIA, we have seen an increase in housing, businesses and mixed-use developments. We have a new Orléans Community Improvement Plan (CIP) that provides an incentive to develop further, an Orléans Secondary Plan Corridor Study that works with Ottawa’s new official plan and Orléans is the very first suburb to receive Light Rail Transit.
BIAs are a way for business districts to pool resources to improve the area and speak with one common voice. We do this by promoting the area as a district, advocating on behalf of our members, and making improvements to the streetscape. All with a goal to improve the economic strength of the district.
This important effort was initiated in response to Orléans growth and requests from a number of business owners who are located within the Orléans boundaries but just outside The Heart of Orléans Business Improvement Area boundaries. Expanding our BIA boundaries will allow us to grow and finally include and extend our service offerings to more Orléans businesses, becoming even stronger, together.
