Heart of Orléans BIA

December 2019

Volume : 4 ,
Issue : 11

One of my favourite times of the year is just around the corner and the spirit of kindness that imbues the holiday season is in full swing in Orléans. You can see it in the festive displays in store windows, in the lighted snowflakes along St-Joseph Boulevard, and in the smiles of the folks you meet as they prepare for gatherings with colleagues, family, and friends.

The spirit of generosity is in full force this month. This becomes quite evident when we look at  the work of nonprofit and charitable organizations in our community.

In this month’s issue, as we do every December, we highlight just a few of the many amazing organizations that provide services to those most in need. For example, did you know there is a Habitat for Humanity build happening right now here in Orléans?

Or, that the founder of Help Our Fur Kids does an unbelievable job of getting rescue animals into their very own happy “forever” homes?

You may already know that the Orléans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre serves our community through a food bank. But did you know they offer a number of other incredible support programs that respond to the most important needs of our community? I hope you enjoy the story of one of their grateful clients who needed a hand up (not a handout) in this month’s issue.

It may surprise you to learn that there is a new food bank located in our district within the Community Compassion Centre on St-Joseph Boulevard. This new Ottawa food bank services those that are a little more west – our K1C neighbours.

These organizations can do their important work because the citizens of Orléans are often very generous with their donations and their time as volunteers, not only during the holiday season, but throughout the year. We thank the many organizations, businesses, donors, and volunteers in our generous community who do their very best to help make our world a better place.

I also wanted to let you know that we are shifting our outreach work here. CP Business Solutions helped us develop a Marketing Strategic Plan that will take us through to 2023. Starting in 2020, The Beat will become a quarterly publication – watch for the next issue in March! But, rest assured that we will be hard at work on behalf of our members with exciting new initiatives.

Wishing you and yours all the best during the holiday season!
