THE HEART OF ORLÉANS BIA PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

23 February 2015

ORLÉANS, ON – The Heart of Orléans Business Improvement Area (BIA) will be announcing a winner this spring for their WIN THIS SPACE competition.

The WIN THIS SPACE initiative, announced in 2015, is a competition to help attract strong, innovative businesses to their commercial district.

The competition is based on entrepreneurs’ solid business ideas, which then must compete for the grand prize of up to $12,000 over 12 months, as well as in-kind supports and services.  “We have some strong submissions, but there is still time to hear from more entrepreneurs,” says Jasmine Brown, the BIA’s Executive Director.  “The goal is to attract creative businesses, and break down some barriers for owners, to help them turn their dreams into reality.”

The BIA is accepting submissions until Friday, 29 April, 2016.

Finalists will have to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges, before the winner is selected. In order to collect the grand prize, the winner must lease a commercial property in the BIA district. The prize must be applied toward the cost of their rent.

WIN THIS SPACE is one way the Heart of Orléans BIA is working to recruit new businesses and further the economic development of the area. “There are many opportunities in our BIA district right now,” says Kim Ziebell, Chair of Marketing. “We want the St-Joseph district to be the first choice for business owners, and let them know about the benefits of opening their business here.”
