Situ\u00e9 le long de la rivi\u00e8re des Outaouais, le Petrie Island Canoe Club (PICC)<\/a> est devenu une pierre angulaire de la communaut\u00e9 de l’est d’Ottawa. Fond\u00e9 par Sarah Kennedy, le club offre une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de programmes de canotage abordables et de haute qualit\u00e9 pour tous les \u00e2ges et tous les niveaux d’habilet\u00e9. Avec pour mission d’offrir un acc\u00e8s local \u00e0 la nature et de promouvoir un mode de vie sain, le PICC<\/a> est devenu une plaque tournante pour le pagayage r\u00e9cr\u00e9atif et comp\u00e9titif.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Une passion pour la communaut\u00e9<\/h4>\n

L’amour de Sarah pour le cano\u00eb-kayak remonte \u00e0 son enfance \u00e0 Dartmouth, en Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse, o\u00f9 elle a grandi au sein d’un club de cano\u00eb-kayak prosp\u00e8re. Apr\u00e8s avoir d\u00e9m\u00e9nag\u00e9 \u00e0 Ottawa, elle a voulu offrir des exp\u00e9riences similaires aux enfants de la r\u00e9gion. Cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 2013 en tant que programme du Rideau Canoe Club, le PICC<\/a> est devenu une entit\u00e9 ind\u00e9pendante en 2016, poursuivant sa mission en tant qu’organisme communautaire sans but lucratif.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Je voulais que les enfants de l’est d’Ottawa aient acc\u00e8s aux m\u00eames exp\u00e9riences extraordinaires que celles que j’ai v\u00e9cues en grandissant \u00bb, explique Sarah. Le succ\u00e8s du club est attribu\u00e9 \u00e0 son approche ax\u00e9e sur la communaut\u00e9, \u00e0 son travail acharn\u00e9 et au soutien de personnalit\u00e9s locales comme le regrett\u00e9 Al Tweddle et des conseillers municipaux.<\/p>\n

Une gamme de programmes pour tous<\/h4>\n

Le PICC<\/a> propose des programmes pour les enfants, les adultes et les personnes ayant des besoins particuliers, depuis les camps d’initiation jusqu’aux \u00e9quipes de comp\u00e9tition. Les points forts sont les suivants :<\/p>\n

Programmes pour enfants :<\/strong> Kiddie Canoe, Canoe Kids, Regatta Ready et Sprint.<\/p>\n

Programmes pour adultes :<\/strong> Pagaie des Jeux olympiques sp\u00e9ciaux, pagaie paralympique, bateau-dragon et sprint des ma\u00eetres.<\/p>\n

Initiatives sp\u00e9ciales :<\/strong> Les enfants autochtones peuvent participer gratuitement au programme Sprint.<\/p>\n

Sarah a choisi l’\u00eele Petrie pour son m\u00e9lange parfait de beaut\u00e9 naturelle et d’accessibilit\u00e9. \u00ab C’est le meilleur endroit pour un club de cano\u00eb \u00bb, dit-elle, soulignant la tranquillit\u00e9 de l’endroit et son lien avec la rivi\u00e8re des Outaouais. La ZAC du C\u0153ur d’Orl\u00e9ans<\/a> a un fort sentiment d’appartenance \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9, et le PICC<\/a> s’y int\u00e8gre parfaitement.<\/p>\n

En dehors de son travail au PICC<\/a>, Sarah aime lire, faire du sport et passer du temps avec sa grande famille. Elle joue du violon et du piano, aime la nature et s’engage \u00e0 partager sa passion pour les activit\u00e9s de plein air avec les autres, en particulier les enfants.<\/p>\n
