If you are selected to become our next Marketing & Communications Manager, you will play a critical role in representing our brand and becoming the unified voice of the Heart of Orléans Business Improvement Area (BIA). You will work with a small dynamic team committed to attracting, supporting, and promoting the kind of businesses that makes the Heart of Orléans distinct. 

Reports to: Executive Director of the BIA

Location: Orléans, Ontario (Hybrid)

Status: Full time Employee

Compensation: $65,000-$80,000 depending on experience and qualifications

Primary Position Requirements

Your role is important to the organization. There are three key areas where you will need to demonstrate your excellence. You will need to exhibit your capabilities in the following areas:

 

  1. You speak, read and write fluently in English and French.
  2. You have a post secondary education in Marketing, Communications, Journalism and/or Media Relations.
  3. You have worked a minimum of two years in the Marketing and Communications field.

Requirements

We aren’t just looking for anyone to fill this new position. We are looking for someone very special – someone who knows and understands the district and is extremely passionate about showcasing and supporting the strength of our business community.

Skills

  • You are an excellent communicator and storyteller with strong written and verbal skills.
  • You can maintain a website using a web content management system such as WordPress.
  • You are comfortable using MailChimp or equivalent technology to send bulk newsletters.
  • You elevate content by taking impactful pictures, producing animated reels and/or using graphic design tools such as CANVA to showcase consistent branding.
  • You enjoy creating and managing small projects and/or cutting-edge marketing campaigns.
  • You always monitor and evaluate social trends, Adwords, SEO and other news to identify new opportunities and growth.

Experience

  • You have experience developing and implementing Strategic Marketing Plans.
  • You have managed social media platforms and campaigns.
  • You have a working knowledge of operational finance and maintaining a budget.
  • You have developed and documented succinct procedures and systems.

Attitude/Attributes

  • You easily build rapport with just about anyone.
  • Others describe you as an outgoing and engaging individual and you feel the same way.
  • You are persistent and always find the positive in the toughest of situations.
  • You are an adaptable, flexible person who thrives in a fast paced environment.

  • You can rapidly create high quality web pages.
  • You can develop and publish bilingual newsletters, blogs, press releases and/or social media content for both the business and broader community.
  • You can grow a social media presence and website audience based on analytics.

Work Environment (Fit)

BIAs are a way for business districts to pool resources to improve the area, and speak with one common voice. We do this by promoting the area as a district, advocating on behalf of our members, and making improvements to the streetscape. 

We strive to be a strong community leader, influencing decisions for Orléans, and inspiring positive change. The BIA is also very committed to advocating for and promoting our district and empowering our members. We nurture an engaged and enthusiastic membership that reflects and values our vibrant community and also strive to create a trendy destination to attract new business and visitors.

  • You will work directly for the Executive Director of the Heart of Orléans BIA who ensures the team carries out its mandate according to the strategic direction of the board of directors.
  • You will supervise our summer student from the Shenkman office. 
  • We are committed to meeting the needs of our members so we are naturally flexible, responsive, and adaptable in our approach.
  • We occasionally work outside normal business hours.
  • Our team members work well both as a group and independently.

  • Our office is the hub of activity. We meet regularly and often to communicate the progress we are making and to ensure we are aligned as a team.

To begin, you will work full-time out of our business hub in the beautiful Shenkman Arts Centre. Then, you will transition to working remotely at times as we operate using a hybrid business model.
